Tourist attractions and excursions in the "Pfaffenwinkel"

Right in the midst of the Pfaffenwinkel region and picturesquely embedded between meadows, forests and soft sloping hills, you will find the spa and holiday village Bad Bayersoien at lake Soien, picture-perfect farm houses, snugly inns, a baroque church and balconies loaded with flowers. Scenic and dreamy Lake Soien is located at the edge of the village.

A Mecca for people who love to bathe, go fishing, or hiking. Starting point for many wonderful walking tours or hiking trips through the municipal spa park, around the lake, right through the wonderful pre-alpine landscapes or romantic gorges – on and on with splendid views of the panorama of the Ammergau Mountains.

Bad Bayersoien is located in the southern part of the Pfaffenwinkel region in the county of Garmisch-Partenkirchen and is surrounded by world-famous tourist attractions. Amongst them the royal castles Neuschwanstein (“Sleeping Beauty Castle”), Hohenschwangau and Linderhof, the monasteries Andechs, Benediktbeuern, Ettal and Wessobrunn, as well as the Wieskirche, the Stiftskirche in Rottenbuch, the Welfenmünster in Steingaden, the Gabriele-Münter-Haus, the castle museum in Murnau with its emphasis on “Blauer Reiter” (Blue Rider) and reverse glass painting, and the Franz-Marc-Museum in Kochel.  

It is also worthwhile to visit the upper Bavarian Freilichtmuseums auf der Glentleiten (Open Air Museum) close to Murnau with its old, historic farm houses and living workshops.

Other tours take you to Munich, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Oberammergau, Innsbruck, Seefeld or into Leutasch. For example a highly recommended trip takes you by train from Murnau to Innsbruck or from Garmisch to Germany’s highest mountain Zugspitze (app. 3.000 meters above sea level). Bad Bayersoien offers a vast amount of activities nearby, making it a relaxed and memorable holiday.

Bad Bayersoien can be reached easily via the autobahn Augsburg – Schongau or Munich – Garmisch, as well as by train from Munich to Saulgrub via Murnau.

Nordic Walking trails and many hiking trails, in immediate proximity, ranging from easy to energetic level, are expertly marked and described. They lead through the unique and varied Bavarian pre-alpine landscape. You will experience mesmerizingly pretty areas of protected nature, landscapes and moors, all of unparalleled size and beauty.

Or you climb up to dizzy hights and take in the wonderful views while enjoying a typical hearty Bavarian snack (“Brotzeit”). For everyone there is something on the list, all according to one’s personal lining and stamina. The numerous mountain railways or cable cars in the vicinity are often a welcome help when scaling the mountains or are used as a shortcut on extensive hiking tours (Webcams).

The walking path around the lake offers wonderful spa features which call for a break, amongst them a moor educational trail, a Moor basin for the feet, Kneipp basin, barefoot path, a spacious lawn area for sunbathing, as well as a unique flora and fauna. Please be aware that most flowers and orchids are protected and forbidden to be picked.

Bad Bayersoien in winter time is also worthwhile a trip. Just leave all your cares behind while on a wonderful winter walk or on a romantic horse-drawn sleigh ride. Friends of cross-country skiing will find 70 kilometers of ski-tracks through a beautiful, untouched winter landscape nearby, leaving no desires unfulfilled. But alpine skiers will also get their pleasure and can indulge themselves, whether beginner or advanced, in the nearby ski areas of Bad Kohlgrub, Oberammergau and Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
